Year 7 - 8 Transition
Year 7 - 8 Transition
Students are supported through the transition from primary school to high school in the following ways:
- Students are thoughtfully grouped into Year 8 classes based on the information provided by Year 7 teachers
- During the last week of Year 7, students are invited to an Orientation Day and their parents are invited to a Parent Information session to prepare for the following year
- The first day of Year 8 is spent as an Orientation Day, preparing students for the new routines of high school
- Early in Term One parents are invited to a Parent Information night to discuss the expectations of high school and to hear about our unique Camping program
- In week 3 or 4 of Term One Year 8 students are invited to a Year 8 Welcome Barbecue
- Carefully selected and trained Year 11 QIPs leaders work with Year 8 classes throughout the year
- Each class goes to Moreton Island for a week long camp accomanied by teachers and their QIP leaders
- Year 8 Team building days are held at the end of each semester
- All Year 8 classes participate in Bridges, a unique one semester subject based on our Teaching and Learning Culture
- Students remain with their Prep class throughout Year 8, studying all their subjects together (with some rearrangements in English and Maths)
- Prep (pastoral care) takes place daily for role marking, with an extra 40 minutes on Fridays for life skills and team building activities
